Tire Concerns: Can I use 4x4 tyres for passanger car?

by Charlie

I've got a chance to buy pair of brand new Yokohama Advan ST 235/50/18 tires in very low price, but I'm not sure these tires will suit my Jaguar XJ X350.

Editorial Comment;

Without knowing the exact year and modle of your car it is not possible to check to see what size of tire is recommended.

I have noted that some Jaguar uses a different sized wheel and tire on the front and back so this is something that could affect what could be used.

Generally speaking, however, if you use the same size of tire as your manufacturer specified, it doesn't matter whether the tires are designed for 4X4 vehicles as far as fit is concerned … all tires, regardless of their use characteristics which have the same size are interchangeable.

What may make a difference is the degree of comfort and handling characteristics which are built in to the different models of tires. If, for example you install a tire with a very aggressive tread design you might find that the noise level is affected when you are driving on the highway.
