Speed Rating

Speed Rating

What if a vehicle (sports sedan) that is supposed to have V rated tires (sports sedan) has T rated tires (family sedan/vans) on it. Would it be wise to replace them with the "V" rated tires that the dealership recommends?

Using lower speed rating
by: Tire Guy

A car manufacturer will recommend a tire that has a speed rating which is consistent with the capability of the car. So if you wish to use that vehicle the way it was designed to be driven you would be wise to use the tires recommended.

If, on the other hand, you and everyone who drives the car never exceed the speed which T rated tires are made for you would not have any problems with a tire of this rating. Just be aware that you must limit your driving speed.
