In 2000, TBC Corporation, one of the largest tire marketers in the US, purchased the parent of Merchant’s Tire, Tire Kingdom. With the acquisition, TBC continued MT's geographic expansion. In 2005, Sumitomo Corporation of America bought TBC Corporation. TBC is now a wholly owned subsidiary of SCOA.
The TBC Group started in Dayton, Ohio in 1956. It is a purchasing group known at the time as Cordovan Associates. Over time, Cordovan Associates grew and more retailers and wholesalers joined. Cordovan Associates changed its name to Tire & Battery Corporation in the mid '70s . The company went public, listing on the stock market under its present name, TBC in 1983.
