how to tell year tiers are made I don't know if my is old

Editorial Comment:

Ever since the year 1971, tires made for sale in the USA are required to carry a code on the sidewall which begins with the letters DOT, and this has become known as the DOT Code.

The last 4 characters of this code (3 characters prior to the year 2000) will tell you the week number and the year in which the tire was made. The first two digits are the week, and the last two are the last two digits of the year, so 2504 would mean the 25th week of 2004 and 0213 would mean the second week of the year 2013.

Before the year 2000 there were only three digits so the same number could repeat every 10 years so it would be impossible to tell whether 105 meant the 10th week of 1975, 1985 or 1995. By adding the 4th digit there won't be any repetition now until we have passed 100 years.
