2000 Pontiac Montana
the front tires on my 2000 pontiac montana xl van are worn and need replacing but the back ones are fine for awhile. Do I need to replace all 4 tires at the same time or can I just replace the front ones for now?
Your 2000 Montana was one of the GM mini-van series related to the Buick GL8, the Chevrolet Venture, the Oldsmobile Silhouette, the Vauxhall Sintra, and the Opel Sintra, none of which were 4 x4 (or 4 wheel drive) that normally recommend the replacement of all 4 tires at the same time.
That being said, we still maintain that you will get the best value for your tire expenditure if you regularly rotate your tires (like every 3 to 4,000 miles) so that all tires wear out more or less evenly and at the same time and you never end up with significant differences in tread wear from one axle to another.
Since your vehicle is not 4x4 you may do as you plan, but starting now, make it a point to rotate your tires on a regular schedule (doing it at the same time as you change your oil is a good plan.) This way you will get as much as 25% extra life out of your tires.
