Another Tire size change question

Another Tire size change question

by Gary
(Colorado)

I have an AWD crossover that is equipped with 215-55-18 tires. Is it unsafe or inadvisable (or even incapable) to change both rears to

245-60-18 tires? I have the clearance in the wheel wells, and it gives the vehicle a jacked-up, raked look (which is what I'm going for). Handling still seems ok. I just don't want to damage the engine, transmission, or drivetrain by doing this.

Mixed tires on AWD:

Most manufacturers of 4WD vehicles advise users to not mix tire sizes because of the potential for producing damage to the drive train. I may be a bit out of touch with the latest generation of AWD vehicles but I believe the principle has not changed. The best thing to do is to review your vehicle user's manual and follow their advice. Especially if there is a warning about using mixed tire sizes you will have to find another way to get the raked look you are wanting for your vehicle.
