265/70r15 or 31x10.5r15 tire for 7 inch rim
1995 GMC Sierra
I have a 1995 GMC Sierra single cab 2wd and am wondering if I should i get 265/70r15 or 31x10.5r15 tire to change the tire size from 235/75r15 which are on what I believe are 7 inch wide rims.
Would a 265 tire or the 31 inch tire be better? I'm aware of speed changes but my main concern is which tire size to choose so that I don't have to change wheels.
About choosing between 265/70r15 or 31x10.5r15 tires
The ideal rim width for either of the tires you are thinking about is 8", but the information I have available is that a 7 inch rim is acceptable for either one. TG
Since this rim is at the lower extreme of the Acceptable range, I'd encourage you to consider getting wider rims or think about using a narrower tire for more secure results.
Think about a 255 or 245 width or a 10 instead of 10.5 in the LTR sizes. You could use our Tire Size Calculator to help you choose a tire which is closer to the original size if you do follow my advice.
Think about why you want to make these changes, if you haven't already done so. Read our Tire Sizes FAQ for more information on this topic.
