2010 Camaro
Hi
Just got a 2010 Camaro and the snow will be flying soon in Toronto, Canada.
Do you have any ideas about what I should get for this car? My driving is some city and mostly clear expressway driving, subject to some winter blizzards...about 25 kilometers a day. Nothing large!
The car currently has: Pirellis P245/50 ZR 19 104W
GM came up with a price of over $4,000 for run-flat Blizzak tires, Camaro rims and sensors.
I'm looking for something a lot cheaper that will do the trick for four to five months of the year.
One: Do I need tire sensors?
Why do I need run flats?
Should I go with an 18" or 19" rim?
Any help would be very much appreciated.

Editorial Comment:
With your new car you're being confronted with several new elements which are affecting your driving costs.
First you're getting larger wheels than have been widely used so the tires you need for these wheels are not going to be the low cost massively produced ones that are on the market.
18 or 19 inch wheels is largely a matter of choice. If you're happy with the ones on the car now, stick with that size.
Whether or not you need sensors may be a matter of choice, but I believe that all new cars sold in the USA now must, by law come with them as standard equipment. Whether you want to buy an extra set of sensors for an extra set of wheels, may still be a mater of your choice.
If you're comfortable going in at the change of season and having your summer/winter tires switched you may be able to stay with the same wheels (and sensors), but you lose the convenience of being able to quickly switch from summer to winter tires virtually anytime and anywhere you can jack up the car and change a wheel.
Hope this helps.
