scared to drive in the rain
by: JOHN

I purchased a 2007 Honda civic with 4 new Nexen N5000, and the performance in wet conditions is completely unacceptable. The ride is harsh and noisy. I accept the harsh ride and the noise, but the grip in the rain is pathetic. I can't afford to replace a new set of tires, but when the Nexen tires need replaced, It will NOT be Nexen brand.

Confused about poor Nexen reviews
by: MrMack

I actually like my Nexens and have been running them on my 2004 VW GLI Turbo 6-speed for about 3 years.

I've abused the tires and they have taken it 100%. I ran up on a curve trying to make u turn and damaged the side wall on one tire last year. I've been driving it that way up until I put the car away in storage for the winter. No issues.

My car is modded and I drive fast..period. My car is slightly lowered and this stresses the entire suspension including the tires and the Nexens have taken this abuse like champs.

After reading a few of the negative reviews, I will point out a few things that might make my situation different:

1. I'm running the factory BBS 18 tires.

2. I bought my Nexen's in Korea, so maybe I got a better production line. Because of the reviews, I'm having second thoughts on buying another set, especially since I can't verify the quality cause I'm not in Korea anymore.

I will add this point. My car came brand new with Goodyear Eagle ones. These are supposed to be good tires right? WRONG! At least they sucked for me. I bought my car new and shipped it to Korea after owning it for 3 weeks. After 15K miles on Korean highways, the belts broke in two of the GoodYear's! Understand, there are no highway patrol in Korean so I pushed my car TO THE LIMIT. 100 mph was nothing. I had have them warrantied and replaced. Guess what? the other two did the same thing 10K later.

I tossed them out and bought a set of Kumho Ecstas and ran them about 25K miles before they had to be tossed due to the thread wearing down.

So intro the Nexens. I went to a Korean performance shop and they swore by the Nexens and I figured what the heck right. that was 45K miles ago. The Nexens still have good amount of tread, its just time to get a new set.

My point here is i do believe certain tires perform and maintain better on certain vehicles.

I tried to give GoodYear another shot and bought a set of light truck tires for my bagged and dropped mini. After they loss air in one and side walls broke in the others, I've completely swore off GoodYear tires.

That's my two cents....

These tires are garbage - only lasting 21,000 miles and worn down to 2/32 - with rotation every oil change - this is a correction for the previous entry listed for the p351 model wich was incorrect - you can check there little web site for verification

Don't buy Nexen? Can't buy them!
by: Snooper

Don't worry about people getting ripped off buying Nexen P351 tires in the 235/60R17 size. Nexen doesn't have a P351 tire and doesn't make any tire in the 236/60R17 size, according to their web site.

NEXEN P351 - 235-60-17
by: jim

DO NOT BUY NEXEN TIRES!!! I had these tires NEW on a 2007 HYUNDAI ENTOURAGE van. After 14 months , 21,000 miles , and having them rotated EVERY oil change, there was only 2/32 left of tread. I called the company , and they could care less. They must use the cheapest materials know to man, mabey and probably recycled garbage!!! BUYER BEWARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DON'T BELIEVE EVERYTHING YOU HEAR!
by: JD-CONNECTICUT

I would definitely NOT recommend buying these tires.

I have had to replace 2 of these tires within the last year even though I only have them on my car for 3-6 months(summer), sometimes less depending on when I switch over to put my chrome rims on. They haven't lasted at least 1 year.

Each time I go to put them back on, I end up having to buy brand new tires for some reason. And then when I finally put them on, I have to keep putting air in them often. I never had a problem with the other brand that I have used in the past with my chrome rims.

The only reason I bought these was because the place where I bought them ([Town Fair Tire]) said that they were one of the best.

DON'T WASTE YOUR HARD-EARNED MONEY!!

Editorial Comment:

Obviously you've had a bad experience or you wouldn't be commenting like this yet, since you mention that "everytime" you change to your chrome rims you have this problem would make me wonder if there might be something which happened to the rims that is causing this.

You mentioned you'd not had this problem before with other brands, but what if, for example, your rims had been damaged in some way in the meantime?

I'm not defending Nexen, just wanting to make sure you've found the cause of your problem.

Nexan N5000 tires
by: Rich

When it came time to replace the rear tires on my 2003 Hyundai Elantra, I had my tire dealer install a pair of Nexan N5000 tires based on what I thought was a solid recommendation from him.

The N5000's replaced a set of really awesome Kumho Solus KH16's that gave me outstanding rear traction, stability, and performance, even when pushed to their limits. Since having the N5000's installed approx 1000 miles ago, I no longer have the same outstanding rear traction performance or cornering stability that I had with the Kumho's during everyday driving. In fact, I have noticed numerous situations where I can actually feel the treads slip when going around corners and it feels like I'm losing traction. They're even worse on wet roads. I've tried different inflation levels (including recommended pressure) without seeing any improvement.

The rear suspension components were inspected for any problems and none were found. I've never owned tires that made me so afraid to drive my car, especially on wet roads. I have absolutely no confidence in these tires.

I made a big mistake buying these tires and I'm very dissatisfied. I now have to spend more money to replace the Nexan's with new Kumho's. Based on this experience, I can't recommend these tires to anyone. I did contact Nexan directly with my comments and I'm waiting for them to respond.

Editorial Comment:

I'm not defending Nexen, but you mentioned that you replaced only two tires which means that your other tires:
1) Have a different tread design and
2) Have a different degree of wear and may be slightly smaller in diameter.

Both these factors could make a difference in handling, or at least be a contributing factor to your situation.

My preference is to have the same tires on all wheels and rotate them regularly to get the most even wear. Had you done this you could try switching the front and rear tires to see if the tires were causing the issue, or if the cause was coming from somewhere else.

You still might try this, but because of the different design and wear levels the results might not be as conclusive.

Have you discussed the issue with your dealer?

So you hit a pothole and blew a tire, sounds like driver error, not the fault of the economy tire... so you review is irrelevant.

Nexen
by: Anonymous

I will not buy Nexen tires again either. I had a set of four installed and had a failure after less than four thousand miles which was after another tire was almost flat from loosing air. The tire which was loosing air continues to require 15 to 20 pounds of air every 3 or 4 weeks. I can understand a tire loosing air after a couple of months and they usually all need air, not just one. I do not feel very confident driving on these tires.
