Tactile Pressure Indicating Sensor Film showing Tire Tread
Another way of studying tire wear and performance is to measure the pressure created by individual parts of its tread.
This can be done using a tactile pressure sensitive film such as one called "Pressurex®" which is a thin flexible mylar film that reveals pressure distribution and magnitude between any two contacting surfaces.
This shows precisely how tire surfaces deform and engage under stress.
