Tire Concerns: What does LT mean?

by Iggy

I have one tire which reads LT245/75/R16.
There is also one that reads LT245/75/R16E.
What do the LT at the beginning and the E at the end mean?

What does LT mean?

LT means that the tire was designed to the LT standard which is used for tires primarily designed for use on light trucks. E is the load range of the tire.
