Tire Concerns: Recall or defect on douglas 195/60 R15 tires

I have a Douglas 195/60 R15 rear tire that has plenty of tread on the tire except one flat spot that happened suddenly. It is about eight inches long and is worn down to the wires.

If you're concerned about a recall, the best place to check would be the Wal-Mart who sold you the tire.
Actually the kind of defect which you describe sounds to me very unlikely to be a defect, but rather something that happened in driving. This kind of thing is typical of a tire which has been subjected to a high speed braking and suffered a skid. If you, or another driver has had a near-accident this would certainly explain the sudden appearance of this kind of loss of tread.
