Air Pressure
by: Wheels Etc

Unfortunately, the dealer is not always looking out for your interest. Their interests are ehanced by a comfortable ride and the air pressue plays a big role in that comfort. Ford and Firestone which were actually connected by marriage, ended their relationship in a heated, public dispute about tire failure. It is entirely my opinion that the problem was caused by Firestone allowing Ford to recommend an air presure lower than the pressure at which the tire could perform correctly. In city driving the tires were able to flex and maintain a resonable performance however, at highway speed the tires built up heat and the added flex lead to catastrophic failure in which people were killed.
You are being told to drive your tires at nearly 25% less than the maximum recommended air pressure. It is my experience the tires will perform better and last longer if you would inflate those tires to within 10% of the maximum pressure noted on the side of the tire. I suspect that maximum to be 44 psi. Of course you will feel the difference in the ride.
