I would think it would be obvious to you, Lawrence, that the "L" stands for "Lawrence!"
Of course, I'm joking. The H/L in this tire's name refer to their intended use. The "H" is for mostly highway use, as you can judge from the design of the tread and the "L" is an indication that it is intended primarily for use with Light Trucks and SUVs.
Don't confuse this H for the speed-rating of "H" that many sizes of this tire carry, because there are other sizes that are rated with V, T and W.
The L isn't necessarily a Load rating either, because some models come with a rating of "XL"
