When changing rims on a vehicle the first main concern is the stud pattern of the rim. If this matches, you may then want to consider the offset which refers to the distance which the wheel hub is situated from the center of the rim. If this is too far in or out when compared with your original wheels you may find that your tires and or wheels may be too far in or out of the wheel well to operate without rubbing on some part of the vehicle.
P225/60r16 tires are designed to be used with 6 1/2J or 7J rims, but will also permit 6J, 7 1/2J and 8J rims to be used. Since you mentioned 7 or 8 inch rims, it appears that both of the alternatives you've considered could be used.
