Tire Concerns: 15X6JJ stenciled on my acquired rims

by Bill

Is 15X6JJ the size of the rims? If so, what is the largest diameter tires I can use, what is the smallest? And what is the widest and skinniest tires I can use on this rim size?

There is no limit to the outside diameter of the tire that will fit on this wheel. That would be determined by the room you have under the fender of your vehicle. The width however does have limit and that could be approximately 235 mm cross section. If you need a wider tire for the project you have in mind you will need a wider wheel. The 6 in the width of this wheel is 6 inches between the flanges. That is not the overall width of the wheel. It is the distance between the beads of the tire you will mount on that rim. If you extend the beads wider than the cross section the tire will not perform well or for long. If you use a wider tire than 235mm you will cause the center of the tire to pinch up and again you will loose performance and mileage. The JJ simply means the configuration as you look at the wheel. You will notice the flanges, the bead area, the safety bead and the drop center. Each of those have measurements and constitute the configuration.
