 Pirelli tires... one of the world's well known
names
Pirelli & C. SpA is an industrial company based in
Milan, Italy, founded in 1872 by Giovanni Battista Pirelli.
At the start it specialised in rubber and derivative
products and today still concentrate on the production of
tires and until 2005 cables. In 2005 Pirelli sold its cable
division to Goldman Sachs which changed the name to
Prysmian.
Pirelli is the main sponsor of the Italian soccer club
Internazionale and the Brazilian soccer club
Palmeiras. They also sponsor the stadium of English
Conference side Burton Albion, as the stadium is located
next to a Pirelli factory.
The Pirelli Calendar is popular and well known for
regularly featuring famous actresses and models.
The Pirelli Internetional Award is given annually
for the best international multimedia involving the
communication of Science & Technology conducted entirely on
the Internet.
Trivia:
Due to the design of the logo, the name is often thought
to be "Firelli" since the end of the "P" appears to be
nonexistent.
