Lit up for 4 hours and still good to go
by: Marc 5

So I bought a pair of nexen low pro performance tires because I was going to beat the he'll out of a cheap pair of tires, I shot a full afternoon of video for my company, dumping the clutch again and again and doing burnouts on a very rough abandoned airstrip. With about 500 horsepower going to the front wheels and over 30 minute long burnouts the tires actually held out longer than the synchros in my transmission...
Long story short, I have never hear of nexen but was looking for a cheap tire to destroy and I actually am really impressed with them and how much abuse they took.

Came with my car- need to replace
by: Anonymous

Nexen CP662 tires came on my 2010 Kia Soul that I purchased in Aug 2009. Now here I am 2 years and about 25k miles later, and I know they will not pass inspection! The tread has worn way more than I feel they should. I love my Kia, but hate the tires!
I am now shopping for replacements so I can get my car inspected.

Bad Tires, I see that I am not the only one!
by: Anonymous

Bought 4 tires. Had it balanced and installed. After a month I noticed a bubble developing on the side wall of my tire. I called the tire dealer and he told me that it was due to road hazard. That i must have hit a pot holes. I felt insulted that he would tell me that. I was told to call the warranty department and see what they can do for me. I called and never really got a response after 1 week. If I did not call and follow up then i probably would not get the answer which they told me NO! road hazard is not covered. Amazing! They said that after careful observation of the pictures and they call the dealer which they are told that it was due to road hazard (I am still dumb founded of the road hazard they were talking about). I can honestly tell you that I baby my cars and the stay clean all the times. I avoid pot holes and even little water on the road let alone pot holes. That is how careful I am. I hardly use my car and never hit anything not even a small pot holes. I should have went on line and read all the reviews. If I did my homework like I always do then I would have stuck to my old Good year tires which I never had an issue. Stay away from this tires. Bought all 4 new tires and stuck to my old brand. I can honestly say i am so much happy and not worried when I drive. PLEASE DO YOUR HOMEWORK!!!

hole in sidewall
by: Anonymous

I have a 2011 Kia Optima EX. It is only a few months old. I have traveled quite a bit and have just over 5000 miles on it. The Nexen tires are horrible. The tread is way eaten away for that many miles and about an hour ago as I was driving down the road, a hole blew out the sidewall. I am not sure what the warranty is on them but I wouldn't suggest purchasing tires from them for anyone.

BAD NEXEN ROADIAN TIRES
by: Anonymous

Well I should have done my homework and started reading all the reviews about NEXEN tires. I have been reading all the comments and I am sad to say that I fell under the same situation like others. Bought 4 brand new set of NEXEN ROADIAN tires for my F-150 . I am in the military and only drives to and from work total of 8 miles. Those 8 miles is nothing but concrete road. No speed bumps, no railroad tracks, no pot holes and I have my own parking space. After buying the tires for only 2 months with less than 2,000 miles, my left rear tires started developing a bubble on the side wall. I went back to the tire dealer and I was told that it is not cover under warranty and it is road hazard. I was told to call NEXEN directly and see what they can do for me. I was told by the warranty department to take pictures last week. Today I was told that since it was a road hazard that they cannot do anything for me. No help at all. I should have stuck to GOODYEAR which I had before, NO PROBLEM AT ALL!!!

So I suggest to ANYONE to do your homework and read all the comments and reviews for all NEXEN tires.

Bottom line...to me this tires is BAD!!!

For all the MILITARY/SOLDIERS and their family. Check with your base off limits establishments/products. I will sure ran this issue with the Corp legal department so that all the SOLDIERS can be informed. I cannot let my fellow SOLDIER falls in the same hole I did if I can help it.

Nexen cp 662 tires got blasted on Edmunds
by: Bill D.

I'm about to take delivery on a new Kia Optima SX turbo (fitted with Nexen cp 662 tires) having driven an Audi A4 and Volvo S60, both good cars.

I was disappointed to read that the tires fitted to my future SX were described as very slippery, by Edmunds tester(s), in their review of the Kia Optima SX turbo. That said, I did push the car fairly hard in my test drive, and I felt no early sliding.

So, it will be interesting to see how they feel when I get 1000 or so miles on the car. I'll post what I find if I can remember to do so.

Editorial Comment:

We'd love to hear your experiences, Bill. Please be as detailed and specific as you can about the things you did and the driving conditions when you tell us so that others can see how these relate to their own situation.

not totally unhappy
by: Anonymous

my Jeep Liberty came with a brand new set of Nexen Rodian installed by the dealer when I bought the jeep, I didn't know what to think since I knew nothing about them, I must say that these are not the best tires I have ever had, but I don't really have problems with them, I have put over 25k miles on them driving on highway and the occasional unpaved road and in the Minnesota winters, the biggest problem I have with these tires is the road noise and the fact that in heavy snow and ice the grip is not quite like I wanted it to be, but yet again these are all season and not winter tires ... I don't know why everyone else's tires have failed miserably and frequently, maybe I am one of the lucky few??? or maybe it's just easier to exaggerate things we dislike instead of writing an honest review,(I am not accusing anyone) but it seems most posts I am reading came out of a horror story ... (I have also been known to be pretty rough on my tires).

Bubbles in the sidewalls
by: Anonymous

Don't buy these tires! I have the same issue with the sidewalls. I live near the beach and most of my driving is highway. I noticied 2 bubbles forming on my sidewall. I tried to call the warranty department and found the number listed in my "limited warranty" booklet was wroing. Finally got the right number and NEVER spoke to anyone. Only option was to leave a message, which I STILL never got a callback. Will be getting good ole USA tires! Poor product, poor customer service.

Sidewall
by: Joe

Again. After reading all the comments I have come to one basic conclusion. The Nexen tires definitely have a problem with the side walls. As I reported in a previous post. Tires mounted around Christmas time. Got rid of them on March 17. Three blown side walls in that period. The third tire was the replacement tire I had to pay for in January.
I have driven for in excess of 40 years on all types of roads and have never experienced tire failure like this. No scuffing, no curb hits, nothing that would justify the failures. Nothing that would justify the bs I got from the dealer. A picture of a side wall failure. A comment I must have hit something. He checked and rechecked the tire. No marks. Again three failures in three months. All side walls. Four American made tires now on the car since I see the sponsor does not want advertising.

Nexen Tires 06 Lincoln
by: Joe

Dealer told me about great tires, great price.
Nexen p225/50r7. Tires mounted December of 2010.
January, 2011 Tire sidewall blew out on a 4 lane road. No potholes, debris, etc. Feb 2006.
Front tire sidewall blew out while I was sitting at a light on a 4 lane state highway. March 2011.
Went to wash car. Noticed bulge in tire replaced in January. Called dealer, got a not my problem statement.
Bottom line.
The First tire I paid to replace. Second tire they paid. Third tire. I put on 4 new tires. Made in USA. I had problems with the dealer. He insisted it was all my fault, that I must have been driving hard over pot holes, that low profile tires were prone to blowouts, even had a book showing how these tires fail. Also offered me another Nexen tire for free. Mileage on replacement tire that failed. Possibly 600 miles.
Total mileage during this period 2000. Would not recommend these tires to anyone.

I have the Same Problem
by: Anonymous

I have Nexen tires put on my Grand am and I do not like them at all. Just like the other posts they lose air all the time. They act squirrely when driving over 45 mph. Compared to the other tires I have had before I can feel every bump on the road feels like they are flat. Also I have lost a lot of gas milage since having them.

Nexen Roadian HP Tires - BLAH!
by: J.Watts

I've had my Nexen Roadian HP set on my Trailblazer (285/35/22) for almost a year and a half. I bought them BRAND NEW and put maybe 15k miles on them. At first, I thought they were the coolest tire (especially based on the design and profile). The sidewalls are splitting HORRIBLY on the inside AND outside of both front tires. My rear tires are 305/40/22 Nexen Roadian HP and they are doing just fine. Not a blemish. Both tires have TONS of tread, but the splits in the sidewalls are almost showing the radials - and NEXEN won't warranty them!

Needless to say, I'm gonna have to buy a new set - at least for the front. I'm NOT buying Nexen, I can tell you that! I used to have Michelin on my Maxima and they were awesome. That was back in 2000. I just might have to go old school and go with what I KNOW will work - Michelin!

If you want pics of my tires, try me at j7watts77@yahoo.com I will gladly show you the lack of quality these NEXEN tires have. Sad. And I paid a ton for 'em on top of that...

Nexen CP662 tire
by: Rob

Bought a new Kia Forte Koup that came with Nexen CP662 tires. The first few months the tires were fine on dry and rainy roads. Then the Minnesota winter came, these tires are the worst tires I have ever had in winter. I have lived in Minnesota my entire life and have been though 28 winters of driving. I have never been scared to drive snow covered roads until these tires. I am getting new tires very soon to replace these Nexen tires with only 3800 miles on them.

Nexen Tires
by: Dave in Florida

I replaced my old tires with a set of four Nexen tires. They have been the worst tires I have ever owned.

They have lost air pressure and been shredded by road hazards. I replaced one with another Nexen after it self destructed on a bridge. It had less than 5000 miles on it. I had a pin hole sidewall leak that a dealer patched for me.

I then replaced two more of these tires after they continued to lose air and developed another sidewall leak after less than 10,000 miles.

A friend has the same tires and has had the same problems. He has a fleet of 7 trucks and will never buy Nexen tires again.

I will never buy them again and I would not recommend them to anyone, especially when I can buy other brand tire for only $10 more. The time I spent at the dealer and changing flats is worth the money.

Editorial Comment:

At the risk of being accused of defending Nexen tires (which I'm not), I'll make some observations which really apply to ANY tire.

First, small pin-hole leaks which produce a slow loss of air pressure can happen regardless of a tire's manufacturer due to the kind of conditions which a tire is used in. An example might be driving in a wooded or desert area where there are thorns.

Next, driving any tire with too little air will cause excessive flexing which heats the rubber and weakens it. This may result in a blow out, or it may simply destroy the tire from the inside out so that it deteriorates and becomes useless.

If your driving takes you into areas where there is an increased risk of sidewall damage such as construction sites, various off-road trips, some farm use, etc. you must make a habit of inspecting your tires more often to discover minor damages which can produce slow leaks, otherwise you will experience shorter tire life.

Perhaps these conditions do not apply to Dave, but I know that some users will benefit from taking these extra precautions regardless of whether they use Nexen or some other brand.

The point is that although it is easy and convenient to blame the tire for certain problems, it is better to examine the conditions and driving habits which accompany a problem to see if these might have contributed to what happened. This can help you avoid repeating the same problem in the future.

Is this forum for people who have experience with the nexan tire or is it a forum for you to control and minimize any bad reviews or feelings toward a product that sounds to be one that you have a financial interest in?

Editorial Comment:

I have never personally used or had any financial interest in Nexen tires, but I have many years in the tire business.

The intention of the forum is for all opinions and points of view. Frequently we question the comments posted here from users who provide meaningless views which don't help other users.

Example: Stating "Tire XXX stinks and should not be allowed to be sold", really tells no one anything of value.

If a writer tells us that they bought XYZ tires, from ABC tire shop in Memphis, had them installed on a 2004 Mazda, they were balanced and the vehicle aligned, then they found that after driving only 2000 miles on gravel roads that the left front tire showed a great deal of tread wear and the others did not, we then might have a clue whether this might or might not be relevant to our own needs and circumstances.

Sometimes writers will tell only part of the story which leads me (and other readers) to conclusions which might be incorrect. These I attempt to state and correct, but since we are unable to read the thoughts of the original poster they are welcome to provide additional information when and if it is available.

No comments or reports are rejected or eliminated because of differing from my views but we reserve the right of refusing to publish any posts which are in poor taste, inappropriate language, libelous, or irrelevant to this website.

Cheap Martino Tires
by: Dan Micu

I've seen the same problem with with Nexen tires purchased from Martino on Sunrise FL. As soon as I got on I95, I noticed right away that the rear of my G6 is all over the interstate with every little steering. Almost feeling like the car will loose control or tip over.

I had bad experience with Martino Tires in the past.

Not sure if an alignment will fix this problem or not.

Nexen tires
by: Anonymous

I have been through 2 sets of Nexen tires on each of my cars now. I am very pleased with the performance, comfort, and tread wear.

On the N3000 I have gotten as much as 40,000 miles on them (which is incredible for a z rated tire). I did my research on the company before I bought and they have high quality standards and also use high quality silica compounds to make the tires.

To the other two who have had bad experiences with this brand I hope they understand that road hazards and poor installation have consequences and those consequences cannot be blamed on the manufacturers. Be glad that you only have to replace a $100 tire instead of a $200 tire (the same thing would have happened with any other tire)...

NEXEN TIRES - A WARNING
by: Hugh Kirkpatrick

I just purchased 4 new Nexen N5000 tires for my Hyundai Sonata to replace the OEM Michelins. I bought these tires based on the price (BIG mistake) and the few favorable reviews I was able to find on the internet. The tires seemed fine until I got on the expressway. At over 45mph, I immediately noticed the rear of the car acting very "squirrely" with any corrective steering input. much like the feeling you get when a rear tire is very under-inflated or going flat. Pulling off the expressway, I checked the two rear tires' pressure which was 40psi, just 4psi below the maximum rated. My alignment had been done by the retailer, Martino Tire in coral Gables, Florida, so that could not have been the problem. I believe these Nexen tires to be of poor design and potentially dangerous and/or life-threatening in any sudden or evasive driving maneuver at any speed over 45 mph. I have submitted comment to the Georgia office and am awaiting a reply.

Editorial Comment:

I'm wondering if you returned to the dealer where these tires had been installed and their response.

This kind of problem seems unlikely with any new tires unless there was some oversight in installation or something which affected the tires or vehicle after installation. These are the things I'd want to consider before suspecting tire design or quality.

I hope you will report on the outcome of your contact with the Nexxen office and/or the dealer.

Final
by: Dave in Florida

I finally got a call back from Nexen who gave me a list of authorized dealers in my area. I went to a dealer and was told that it would be difficult to determine the true failure mode due to the amount of damage from driving on the flat tire. There was a cut in the tread which is what the dealer felt would be the cause of failure. I did not hear any thing or feel anything until I was slowing down at the exit ramp at the end of the bridge. My windows were open.

Anyway, I bought a new tire and am back on the road. Having problems with two tires in the span of a few days when the tires have only 4000 miles on them does not incline me to give them a thumbs up rating. Maybe I will change my mind in a couple of years but for now I will not consider this brand of tire for my other three vehicles.

Editorial Comment:

It's good of you to report back on what happened, and it's also good to learn you received an explanation which you seem to have accepted.

What you seem to have experienced is what people in the business call a "road hazard" --an event which damages your tire that is completely beyond the control of anyone, you or the tire company.

I recall one of the first sets of tires I sold was to a person who bought 5 new tires and with less than 13 miles on them returned with one of them punctured by a piece of rock about the size and shape of your thumb! It was still in the tire when he returned, but there was no option other than to buy a new tire.

He was furious, and initially was upset with the company that they could sell him a tire that wouldn't even get him home, but eventually came to see that the company had no way of avoiding his encounter with that piece of rock.

Because I didn't feel that I should profit from his misfortune, I sold him a replacement tire at my cost and from that day forward implemented a policy of never charging any more than my cost price on any tire that was being replaced due to this kind of damage within 30 days from being purchased.

Some dealers sell an insurance policy which does offer to replace a tire because of road hazards, but, frankly, I don't think they are a good value for a customer because the probability of these happening to any one person at any given time is very low, and the insurance cost high. Still, when it happens to you -- it hurts.

Thanks for sharing your experience with us.

Nexen details
by: Dave in Florida

My biggest complaint is that there is no warranty information available (my fault). The place where I bought the tires said manufacturers warranty only. So now I have $100 worth of hazardous waste and no spare until I replace it (for $100). I checked all the tires the day before this happened because the one tire lost 20 pounds of pressure over two days. The tire that was destroyed was at 29 psi. There is no sign of puncture. My current theory is that is a poorly made product and the manufacturer not making any effort to publish warranty information so they are suspect as to the quality of their product.

Editorial Comment:

Perhaps your story is going to be one that should be entered into our
Rants forum, but BEFORE you go to that length, you might want to give the company a chance to respond to your concerns.

My first step, if I were in your shoes, would be to see the dealer where these tires were purchased and installed, especially if it was an official dealer of the line.

If that didn't produce any fruit, I'd contact the company's customer service line which is published on their website.

Nexxen USA Customer Service
800.576.3936 or 866.706.3936
8:30am to 5:30pm PST

I know that it's frustrating not to see the information you want on their website, but it is possible that this is a site which is being updated and they haven't completed the warranty information on the site. Their dealers, however, I'd think would have all their warranty information up to date.

Keep us informed of how you make out.

Nexen tires
by: Dave in Florida

I just went to the Nexen web site. Under warranty info. it said "coming soon". I bought 4 nexens less than a year ago and they have about 4000 miles on them. One started losing air slowly, over several days. Today the tire on the other side went flat while I was on a bridge and the sidewall was destroyed by the time I could pull over. So, is there any kind of warranty or is it just a cheap, buyer beware tire?

Editorial Comment:

I have no inside knowledge of Nexen's warranty program, but it is important to note that several things can cause a tire to lose air which have nothing to do with the quality of the tire.

I don't know if any of those apply in this case but, having a habit of regularly checking your tires, even visually, can help detect and correct some of these conditions before serious damage is done to the tires and/or your vehicle.

Use our Tire Chek as a minimal monthly reminder to check your tires.
