can I use 235 55 17 on a Honda Accord 2009 instead of the recommended 225 50 17
by: Uko Etuk

can I use 235 55 17 on a Honda Accord 2009 instead of the recommended 225 50 17.This is because I want to raise the height of the car from the ground due to some bad roads that are not tared. When driven in such bad roads with gallops, the car is affected from underneath.

Take a look at our Tire Size Calculator to see the differences in these tires.

The major issue, apart from the size being beyond the normal 2% that I usually recommend is that you may have an issue with the tire rubbing inside the wheel well when you turn or hitting something when you load the car or pass over bumps on the road.

When you are driving roads with very uneven surfaces some cars simply are not apt for that kind of use and trying to adjust the tire size is like trying to fix a major injury with bandages.

Unless this is just a temporary situation, you may want to consider changing vehicles to something which is better suited to these kind of conditions.

235/75/16 to 255/70/16

I have a 4x4 Ssangyong Rexton II it has the original Kumho 235/75/16 tires on it.

This is proving to be a hard size to get a hold of.

The specs have the car wheel as a 7J 16" and list 235/75/16 AND 255/70/16 as tire sizes.

I want to confirm that I can put 255/70/16 (which is an easier size to find).

Please advise of any possible issues.

Thanks,

Craig.

Increasing wheel and tire size on older car
by: Rob O

Hi,

I have a 1994 Camry XLE. I has stock 15" wheels and tires. Would going to 16 or 17" wheels and tires improve my ride, handling, etc or have any benefits.

Thanks!

i have 285/75R16 tires on my pickup i recently purchased, i am wondering if i can put 255 or245/75 R16 tires on the same rims?

Editorial Comment:

The proposed tires are considerably narrower than the ones you now have. Unless the tires on it were over sized for the rims, those rims would likely be too wide for the tires you're thinking about. (30 mm is over 1 inch).

I have a 2002 VW Passat GLX. The stock tires are p255/55/R16 and I was wanting to know if I can put a set of P255/65/R16's on it. I've tried a couple of different site calculators, but havn't had much luck. Any suggestions? Thanks

I have a toyota tacoma it has oem rims tire size on now 205/75R15 and have rims that had tire size 195/65R15 on them.

Can I put my tire on that rim? Tires are almost new, almost no wear, new 3 months ago. I don't want to ruin tires just to put rims on the rims R15 7 wide.

Editorial Comment:
What you are considering is known as Plus One Sizing.

If you want to learn all about this see:
http://www.tire-information-world.com/plus-sizing.html where you can also download our plus sizing calculator.

The most likely possibilities which this calculator suggests are:
Alternative Nº 1 210/55R17
Alternative Nº 2 230/50R17
Alternative Nº 3 255/45R17
Alternative Nº 4 285/40R17

Possibly not all these sizes are available, but they will all give you the same outside diameter as the tire which you are now using, which is the objective of Plus-sizing.

This means that there will be no change in your power, fuel consumption or speedometer reading because of the tire change.
