Penny Test for Tire Tread
A penny can be used to check if the tread on your tires is too low. Place the penny in one of the grooves on the tired, Abe's head first. If Abe's head is covered partly by the tread, the tread is fine. If all of Abe's head is visible, you need to replace your tire. Tread that has worn down to 1/16 of an inch indicates a tire that needs be replaced.
